10 Startups In Cairo That You Can Join After The Summer

As the Egyptian startup ecosystem booms, several of the country's most well-known startups are growing their teams these coming months. Here's 10 vacancies to keep an eye on.

There is a deeply-entrenched misconception that "only working at a multinational corporation will help establish a prosperous career," which belittles the actual benefits of working in a startup; being a prominent member of a smaller team enhances the learning process through decision-making empowerment and learning versatility in a dynamic environment.

Plus, with startups applying the build-measure-learn methodology to constantly improve their product or service, their employees get to experience first-hand success-after-failure. But that's not all: having flexibility to innovate in a less-structured position and a sense of ownership in a close-knit community are amongst some of the endless benefits of working in a startup. Many of them even provide stock options and performance-based bonuses. To empower some of the most pioneering startups in Egypt, here are 10 of them you can join; whether you are a techie, a marketeer, or a financial guru.

1. Android Mobile Developer @ PayMob:

Venture-backed by top-notch technology VC A15, PayMob’s mission is to develop payment solutions that allow businesses and individuals to effortlessly send and receive cashless payments anytime and anywhere. Processing millions of transactions and hundreds of millions of dollars per year, the startup is opening positions to anyone dreaming of transforming Egypt into a cashless society. PayMob are hiring techies with strong background in both RESTful and Java Programming Language, and if you are startup-oriented, then that's a plus.

2. Customer Care Agent @ GoodsMart:

Having raised a $750,000 investment last May, Goodsmart is a premium household shopping application that specializes in the Sheikh Zayed and 6th of October area. Their application connects shoppers with a variety of suppliers, provides users with customizable shopping schedules with pre-paid wallet option instilled; say goodbye to long queues and shopping lists stuck all over the fridge. With customer service being a core value, new recruits are expected to not only maintain, but develop the service level they provide to their clients.

Goodsmart is a premium e-commerce platform.

3. Head of Marketing @ Uber:

One of the fastest growing startups in the world, with a presence in over 400 cities, Uber is a mobility changemaker. Although it entered the Egyptian market only two years ago, Cairo rapidly became the company's fastest growing market. Impacting more than 50,000 drivers by providing them a stable source of income, Uber just partnered with Rawaj Auto Loan, to provide their drivers with the chance to buy their own cars through an installments plus interest plan. Implementing and advising on strategic initiatives that span large strategic partnerships, business development and account management are amongst the many responsibilities a Head of Marketing will have.

4. Talent Acquisition Advisor @ Vezeeta:

Bridging the gap between patients and doctors by making bookings a click away, Vezeeta is reshaping the health-industry in Egypt. Having raised a massive $5 million in January and expanded to Jordan and Lebanon, the startup counts with over 3,000 doctors, 500 professors, and 800 consultants all in more than 30 specialities. With their expansion comes the need for strong employees; as Talent Acquisition Advisor, the applicant should be able to utilize all social media accounts and connect with recruitment officers to hire the right candidates.

5. Growth Marketeer @ Instabug:

Closing off three funding rounds from 10 investors in four years, featured internationally on Forbes, TechCrunch, and Fast Company, Instabug helps mobile app developers test their applications through an app feedback mechanism. They are now looking for someone who can enhance their social media presence and create digital marketing campaigns to scale their startup quickly, although they have over 10 other job openings at the moment. You don’t need to be a computer science major to join their team, just a technology enthusiast.

Co-founded by Omar Gabr, Instabug's app feedback mechanism is used by top companies worldwide.

6. Senior Social Media Specialist @ Wuzzuf:

Featured on 500 Startups and having closed two funding rounds, Wuzzuf is the leading recruitment platform in Egypt with expansion plans in the Middle East. By connecting job seekers with employers using job-matching intelligence, Wuzzuf brings the most accurate opportunities for those who seek them. After acquiring Virify and announcing the aim to hire one million Egyptians by 2020, the startup is currently hire-hunting for someone who is capable of handling and assessing all their social media accounts and can explore new ways to engage with their target audience.

7. Business Development Manager @ Mumm:

Reving recently closed a $200,000 investment from lead investor 500 Startups, Mumm connects hungry-busy customers with home-based entrepreneurial cooks. Although for this position, solid demonstration of leadership is required, you need to be hungry to learn and have a passion for food in all their positions. As a Business Development Manager, you will be required to expand and assess the network of home-based cooks, help in increasing profits and engage with customers for catering events; however, the startup has a variety of other vacancies.

8. Client Success Manager @ ElMenus:

The ultimate platform for food discovery in Egypt, just closed a funding round worth $1.5 million two months ago; this investment will help in team-expansion, as well as ease the facilitation of online ordering for customers. This is a huge leap for ElMenus, so if you are a foodie with the enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced growing startup environment, this one’s for you. The vacancy requires tracking and ensuring client satisfaction, as well as gathering feedback on a regular basis to boost customer experience.

ElMenus recently landed $1.5 million in investment.

9. Accountant @ iFix:

Everyone has probably experienced that heart-breaking moment of looking at your iPhone’s shattered screen, which is why iFix established the leading on-the-go smartphone repair company in Egypt. In 30 minutes, wherever you are, right in front of you, a tech-geek will be there to solve all phone-related problems. Now, financial gurus are needed at the rising startup, with responsibilities including - but not limited to - handling and preparing taxes, running account cycle and replenishing the cash fund monthly.

10. Academic Tutor @ Tutorama:

Winner of the 2016 MITEF Pan Arab Startup Competition, and having scooped a seed round from A15Tutorama is filling a gap in the Egyptian educational system. Tutorama helps you earn extra money while tailoring your own work-schedule, by connecting you - as a tutor - to young people who need help in achieving their educational potential. They are interested in applicants with fluency in languages and strong academic performers in subjects they wish to teach.
