Six vessels have completed their trial run through the new Suez Canal today, as the deadline set by President Sisi inches closer. The fleet sailing north had ships flying flags of Singapore, Luxembourg and Bahrain. Those sailing south had flags from Liberia, Singapore and Hong Kong. The new national project which is dubbed the Suez Canal Axis (Me7war, ya3ny) aims at expanding the current Suez Canal and, in turn, increasing revenues from the crucial link between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Officials estimate that the axis will more than double income from the Suez Canal from $5.3 billion expected at the end of 2015 to $13.2 billion in 2023.
