Smartphone sales in Egypt have reached $4.6 billion over the past year, positioning the country as having one of the highest smartphone sales in developing markets in 2015, according to a report by global market research agency GFK.

Occupying the eighth place in the ranking, which also includes Pakistan, Nigeria, Brazil, China and Indonesia in the top ten, Egypt is anticipated to reach $5 billion by the end of 2015, achieving a 0.3% growth rate in terms of sales value compared to last year.

While the global phone market is expected to drop, countries such as Egypt, India and China will continue to grow, dominating tech device sales growth. According to the report, emerging markets will increase by $10 billion, led by India, which is expected to grow by $5 billion in 2015. China ranked second in terms of sales value, as forecasts indicate it will achieve a sales value worth of $200.8 billion by the end of 2015, compared to $199 billion in 2014.

Meanwhile, the global phone market will continue to decline rapidly, with GFK’s forecasts showing sales dropping 20% in volume and 30% in sales by value.
