Back in action in Hollywood, the Egyptian actor is set to star opposite Gerard Butler, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia in a new sci-fi thriller.
Seems like Amr Waked is on a roll, nabbing a spot alongside Gerard Butler in upcoming sci-fi action thriller Geostorm. This latest role comes hot on the heels of his last Hollywood blockbuster, where he co-starred in action thriller Limitless, sorry we mean Lucy – it’s not like they’re the exact same film or anything, give or take Scarlett Johansson’s boobs.
Geostorm, which is set to be released in October 2016, stars Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris, Andy Garcia, and of course, he of THIS IS SPARTA and rippling abs fame, Gerard Butler. Butler plays a satellite designer who travels to space to fix some malfunction while a plan to assassinate the President unfolds back on earth. So, basically, every generic space catastrophe movie ever? Except with Butler in space, we doubt he’ll be taking his shirt off, which is really just a loss for everyone.
Anyway, Waked will be playing the role of a French space station security expert, who will either be a help or a hindrance to Butler throughout the film. His character, an “intimidating and rugged security expert,” will be "an important ally for Butler or a thorn in his side, depending on where the screenplay takes him," according to Variety.
So, essentially, it seems Waked is finding a spot for himself as more or less the same character in various Hollywood action films; a supporting good cop/general security person, who also happens to be French. Why is he always French? But no, let’s count our blessings; usually the Arab guy would be typecast as the obvious terrorist so let’s be grateful he’s not the bad guy anymore. Instead, he’s always a suave French good guy. Still though, why is he French? But whatever, who the hell are we to speak; he’s Egypt’s biggest breakthrough star, has starred opposite ScarJo, Morgan Freeman, Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor. All we did today was eat stale pizza.
