CJC Goes Above and Beyond for Cairo Jazz Festival’s Ninth Edition

If you’re a serious Jazz fan, you’re probably counting down the seconds until the gods of Jazz grace our music scene with the annual Cairo Jazz Festival. As always, Cairo Jazz Club has your back and made sure to fill their Beyond Stage with all the favourites from all around the world. Both International and local crème de la crème Jazz artists will be gracing CJC’s stage starting the 28^th of September up until October 1^st, and the line-up is shaping up to be CJC’s best to date.

The Beyond Stage grand kick off will be tonight with Kapok, one of the most recognisable young bands on the Dutch music scene today. The band is known for their soulful rhythms, infectious interaction, and on-the-spot on-stage improvisation; they come with the unusual mesh of horn, guitar and drums. Kapok’s hornist/composer Morris Kliphuis will have you thinking of the crying wolf in Peter and the Wolf of Prokofiev. Fresh from El Gouna Film Festival, local favourite Hany Moustafa will be joined by The Cadillacs’ George Aboutar and singer/songwriter Shady Ahmed in a memorable tribute to the Lizard King, Jim Morrisson; only a group of unique talents like this one can do justice to The Doors front man’s musical legacy.The musical momentum will only be increasing on Friday as CJC celebrates rising DJs Aguizi & Fahim who we’ve heard have new, original releases up their sleeves that they’ll be introducing. Machine Eat Man’s synthesizer, Mohamed Ragab will also be making an appearance with his newest dance floor electronic project, Burdizo.For the third night of the Jazz journey, the Hungarian András Dés Trio will be playing their melodic, complex tunes. The trio premiered in Budapest in 2007, and have since been internationally on the rise; most of the tunes are composed by lead man András Dés with the creative input of all three members. We can’t think of a better finale for Beyond Stage that can rival a Sunday night full of classical jazz & Balkan music, combined with rhythms from Latin America, as CJC brings us the Austrian three-women band, Netnakisum. The Austrian group moves stylistically between a variety of influences from classical music, new-age music, pop, rock, and jazz; the femmes fatales have been performing world-wide since 2007.

The highlight of all Cairo Jazz Festival’s events, Beyond Stage, will be fulfilling all your musical fantasies in this four-night treat like nothing you’ve seen before.
