After losing in the first round of the 2016 championships to Ukrainian, Kateryna Lahno, 22-year-old Mona Khaled is looking for redemption on her quest to be the most powerful queen at the 2017 Women's World Chess Championships. The tournament will be held in Tehran from the 10th of February to the 5th of March and is set to be an epic showdown of grandmasters from all around the planet.

From a young age, Khaled has been checking out mates on various international chess boards making her way to the top of the Arab world ranking. In 2007 at 13-years-old, she won the African Women’s Championships – winning it again in 2011, as well as taking home the win at the 2008 Arab Women’s Championships. She has also been titled ‘woman grand master’ on the World Chess Federation, the highest ranking that Khaled can receive within the Arab region.
