Coca-Cola Changes the Game With Bottles Made of Plants

It is rare to find transnational corporations lending a helping hand to the green movement, and many will suffice by handing out donations or helping host certain events...but to contribute in a creative and innovative method is something you don’t see everyday. That’s why we were impressed to find that Coca-Cola is using revolutionary technology to create renewable bottles made entirely of plant material.

Finally people are starting to look for alternatives to plastic and other harmful nonrenewable material, but you don’t really have many biodegradable options. This is where Coca-Cola helps narrow the gap. For those thinking they’ll be having their Coke in a mud pot, fear not, the bottle functions the same but is simply planet friendly. Nancy Quan, Global Research and Development Officer stated that this is both an innovative method and takes Coca-Cola from being a mere contributor to a pioneer of the green movement: “Today is a pioneering milestone within our Company’s packaging portfolio. Our vision was to maximize game-changing technology, using responsibly sourced plant-based materials to create the globe’s first fully recyclable PET plastic bottle made entirely from renewable materials.”

The bottle is made by using sugar cane and sugar cane waste and according to Coca-Cola, it is estimated the use of PlantBottle packaging since launch has helped save the equivalent annual emissions of more than 315,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide and with a city like Cairo we can breathe an easy sigh of relief.
