Egypt’s First Baby Giraffe is Finally Born After 30 Years

It’s a boy! Sonson the giraffe has just given birth to a 190 cm male giraffe at the Giza Zoo, the first birth to an Egyptian giraffe in 30 years. The baby was delivered naturally, and both Sonson and baby are in full health. Seeing as the giraffe birth rate is declining worldwide, this is excellent news.

Mohammed Abdul Hamid, Chairman of the Central Administration of Zoos, has directed the mother and son to a medical team at the zoo to ensure the right treatment, nutrition, and vaccinations are provided. He has also limited visitations for the next three days in order to protect the family and ensure the mother undergoes a full recovery. We can’t wait to meet the little one!
