Egypt’s Journalists Syndicate to Track Israeli Violence Against Press

Egypt’s Journalists Syndicate held the inaugural meeting of the 'Committee for Monitoring and Documenting Israeli Occupation Crimes'. The newly-founded committee was established in direct response to the Israeli airstrike that hit a group of journalists on duty in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the death of Reuters journalist, Isam Abdallah, and left six other journalists injured.

The gathering brought together members of the Syndicate Council and the General Assembly to discuss the ongoing crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against journalists in Gaza, the West Bank and southern Lebanon.

During the meeting, testimonies were shared documenting the direct targeting of journalists in the field while covering the occupation, as well as the deliberate attacks on journalists' residences in the occupied Palestinian territories. Khaled Al-Balshi, head of Egypt’s Journalists Syndicate, highlighted his efforts in contacting international institutions dedicated to protecting journalists and promoting press freedom.

Al-Balshi drew attention to the erosion of neutrality among numerous newspapers, European and American television channels. To address these concerns, the Committee decided to establish documentation groups proficient in various foreign languages to monitor abuses and biased coverage in Western media regarding the war on Gaza.

To unveil the initial findings of unprofessional practices exposed in the Western media since the start of the war on Gaza, Al-Balshi called for a press conference, scheduled for Monday, October 16th, at 1 PM. The conference aims to shed light on the monitoring efforts and discuss the documented instances of media bias, inviting both local and international media representatives to attend.
