El Gouna International Squash Open Is Back With $300,000 in Prize Money

For the first time in Egypt, the tournament will be offering finalists in both the men and the women's sections the same amount of prize money.

Offering a total of USD 330,000 in prize money, El Gouna International Squash Open is back for its seventh edition - taking place from 20-27 April - under the patronage of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Egyptian Tourism Authority.

Qualification rounds will be taking place between 18th-19th of April and the main draw will be from 20th - 27th April, both of which will be at the El Gouna Squash Complex and on the glass court at Abu Tig Marina. The tournament will host men and women PSA world series events with an equal prize of USD 165 000 for each section, with the equal prizes for both sections being a first in Egypt. Garnering the 112 top players from 17 countries, the finalists in the men’s list will be going head to head with world champions Gregory Gaultier and Mohamed El Shorbagy. The men's entry list - which includes 23 from the top 34 in the main draw - are defending champion Gregory Gaultier while the women's entry list - which includes the top 16 from the draw - will see the finalist challenging champions Nour El Sherbiny and Raneem El Welly.

Naguib Sawiris, the main sponsor of the tournament for the third year in a row, stated that the El Gouna International Squash Open has succeeded in becoming one of the biggest seven international squash tournaments in the world and sees Egypt playing a significant role in boosting a sport where Egyptian athletes have attained a leading position worldwide.

The tournament - which is organized by I-events in partnership with Orascom development Egypt and El Gouna - is part of the seven world series tournaments. Held annually in six different countries worldwide - including United States, Hong Kong, England, Dubai, Egypt and Qatar - the world series tournament is the largest in terms of prize money and points on the PSA tour calendar.

"My vision for the El Gouna International Squash Open from day one was to seek out opportunities for Egyptian squash players to succeed in their home country and at the same time, support Egypt’s tourism industry. The success of the tournament and its continued presence in Egypt will be the largest proof of Egypt's high standing," says El Gouna International Squash Open founder and I-events CEO, Amr Mansi.
