Haifa Wehbe in 'Theft' Scandal

Lebanese bombshell Haifa Wehbe has landed in hot water amid claims that her latest movie trailer is a rehash of an iconic drinks advert. The commercial for Wehbe's latest flick Sweetness of Spirit shows the buxom babe strolling along a sun drenched piazza in a figure hugging red dress hounded by a string of dapperly dressed men. However many observers claim that the trailer is a rip-off of a Martini Gold commercial starring Italian seductress Monica Belluci in an almost identical scene.

Viewers have also drawn paralells between the music featured in the similar presentations and the Wehbe trailer even copies Martini's black and white tinted background. Leading Egyptian film critic Tarek el-Shenawy labelled the stunt "an act of theft. They have stolen the ideas and creativity behind an advert that millions have seen and is extremely popular. Many productions in the Egyptian film industry have copied other creative pieces. But in this case, this act of theft was carried out daringly. The film industry in Egypt is getting more and more accustomed to seeing ideas from Western productions being copied in our films. Still, accusing a director of stealing of creative content should never be taken lightly.”

The film previously courted controversy after movie bosses were forced to remove almost 30 lines from the script in order to get the green light from Egyptian movie censors.

Here at Cairo Scene we can't decide - so we'll leave it up to you to make up your own minds.
