Presidential Decree Raises Minimum Wage to EGP 6,000 in Egypt

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has ordered a 50% increase in the minimum wage, raising it to 6,000 Egyptian pounds per month. The minimum wage was previously set at EGP 4,000 in November 2023.

Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that President el-Sisi has issued decisions aimed at alleviating the financial burdens on citizens. The Presidency's spokesperson further added that President el-Sisi has initiated the largest urgent social package for social protection, which will be implemented starting in March.

The social package directed by President Sisi includes a 15% increase in pensions for 13 million citizens, at a total cost of 74 billion pounds, and a 15% increase in ‘Takaful Wa Karama’ pensions at a cost of EGP 5.5 billion. The increase will amount to 55% of the pension value over the year, with EGP 41 billion allocated for ‘Takaful Wa Karama’ pensions in the fiscal year 2024/2025.

The directives also include allocating an additional 15 billion pounds to the salaries of doctors, nurses, teachers, and university faculty members.
