Earlier this month we heard the rumblings of a possible visit by the Pope Francis to Egypt. Well, the rumours have officially been confirmed by the Vatican who announced he will be visiting April 28-29th.

Presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef announced on Saturday that the Pope visit is in response to an invitation made by President Sisi when he had visited the Vatican in late 2014. Pope Francis will be meeting with President Sisi as well as Egypt's top Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, and Egypt's spiritual Coptic Christian leader Pope Tawadros II.

The aim of the visit will hopefully solidify and promote a “spirit of tolerance and dialogue” between Egypt's different faiths while discussing ways to combat extremism and terrorism.
