Egypt Ranked Safest Country in Africa, and Top 20 Worldwide

Based on a series of questions asked by Gallup, they have come to the conclusion that Egypt is apparently safer than the UK and the US.

According to Gallup Global Law and Order, Egypt ranks as the 16th safest country in the world. Yep, you heard that right. In fact, Egypt was ranked as the safest country in Africa (South Sudan being the least safe), and has outranked both the US and UK on the same subject.

So what gives Gallup the confidence to make such a statement? According to their official website, Gallup asked residents from all over the world a series of questions concerning security. One of the questions asked was whether the residents feel safe walking alone at night.

It seems strange to think that asking “Do you feel safe walking alone at night in the city or area where you live?” would put Egypt up at a nice 16 out of 135 countries. However, one could argue that walking at night in Egypt is relatively safe, due to the amount of people who never go to sleep. Maybe the poll was taken during Ramadan, when nightlife is the peak time for busy streets and ahawy.

Other questions that were asked in the poll were whether the citizens had confidence in their local police and felt secure, or whether they were subjected to assault or theft.

Egypt has been battling with sustaining tourism due to previous incidents of terrorism such as the death of eight Mexican tourists in 2015, and the bombing episodes at churches in 2017.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi continues to combat terrorism, putting it at the top of his priorities for his second term of presidency.
