16 Egyptian Female Judges Appointed to Major Judiciary Positions

A testament to the kind of judicial efficiency these women of the law hold.

In a spot of judicial news this fine Thursday afternoon, 16 female judges around Egypt have been given well-deserved promotions within Egypt’s judicial system, according to an announcement on Wednesday by the National Council for Women (NCW).

A swath of judges all over the country had received promotions last Tuesday, including 16 of the 66 currently active female judges. Judge Amal Ammar, the now-president of the Qena Appeals Court, was among the most notable female judiciaries to move up the ranks, along with Judge Hasnaa Shaaban, who has been appointed as the head judge of the Tanta Economic Court.

This is another noteworthy stride in a hopefully long-lived line of Judges to move up on Egypt’s judicial ranks, including Judge Ghada El-Shahawy, the first female assistant to the Minister of Justice on Women and Child Affairs in 2015, and Judge Susan Abdelrahman as assistant to the Minister of Justice on Human Rights.

The NCW applauded the decision by the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, describing it as a reflection of the Council’s strong belief in the professional and judicial capacities of Egypt’s female judges.
