7 Of The Best New Restaurants In Zamalek

From pasta to pizza, salmon to rotisserie chicken, Zamalek has plenty of delicious spots where you can stuff your face, no matter what you're feeling.

Staff Writer
The little island of Zamalek is a bastion of rich culture and decadent class amid the hustle and bustling chaos that is the rest of Cairo. Home to some of the finest restaurants in all of Egypt, it’s difficult to fathom how there can still be more excellent places to eat opening up on an island with a seriously finite amount of real estate. Still, every year, the ranks of exceptional culinary institutions are bolstered by an exponentially increasing number of fine dining locations. Here are seven of our new favourite restaurants in Zamalek that have opened up in the past year.

O’s Pasta

Pasta may have roots in the Arab world but nobody does noodles quite like the Italians. This authentically peninsular dining experience boasts the finest and freshest ingredients prepared right in front of you. We’re not sure what the ‘O’ stands for but to us it means ‘OMG!'

AM/PM

Consuming delicious food while trying to keep things convenient and healthy is the greatest dilemma facing modern man. Thankfully AM/PM is here to simplify the whole deal. Serving both breakfast and food for the post meridian or ‘PM’, they feature everything from daily breakfast specials to fresh pasta and the gorgeous Asian-style salmon pictured above. Their breakfasts are an early riser's dream come true (let's all be honest here; the only reason we get up before noon on a Friday is so we can eat breakfast food) with range of different bagel options, and a slew of innovative muffin flavours such as cranberry and yogurt. Plus they deliver so if you're feeling more like breakfast in bed. Or every meal in bed.

Burger & Bagel

Combining two of the tastiest creations on earth, Burger & Bagel have created a masterpiece of beastly proportions. Throwing donuts into the mix means that it’s basically the American dream come true. Now if only there was a way to make a burger/bagel/donut hybrid...

Jeff de Bruges

Chocolate is food. Don’t argue. And nothing is better than Belgian chocolate. These world renowned Parisian chocolatiers just opened up in Cairo and the entire country is better for it.

Chick Shack

Normally we don't buy our chickens from shacks (who are we kidding, this is Egypt!) but we'll make an exception for the newest rotating fowl vendor in town. With huge juicy rotisserie chickens visible through the window, it's impossible to have missed the Chick Shack. Once inside it's impossible to leave without a few chickens and an unseemly amount of side dishes.

Da Riccardo Pizzeria

Pizza has no right to be as delicious as it is but Da Riccardo's authentic Italian recipes has got us yelling "mama mia!" louder than usual. Located on the lovely Le Pacha Boat, enjoy your pie with one of the best views of the river.

Le Deck

Ok so this one isn't technically open yet but we're so excited for its grand opening we just can't help ourselves. Combining French, Japanese, and Egyptian cuisines into a one of kind international smorgasbord. By the time Le Deck opens, we'll be so excited we'll probably swim across the river.
