Endless Asian Cuisine at Kamala

We headed over to the Conrad Cairo's Kamala restaurant for the best brunch offer we've indulged in for a while; mountains of Pan-Asian cuisine and a glass of wine for just 200LE every Saturday.

If there’s anything we look forward to more than a wild Friday night on the town, it’s Saturday afternoon brunch and a heavy dose of gossip. And where better to indulge in both, than one of Cairo’s most recognisable Nile-side landmarks, the gorgeous Conrad Cairo Hotel? We headed on over there last weekend to soothe our headaches and hide our I-can’t-believe-what-I-did-last-night shame in piles and piles of gourmet, pan-Asian cuisine at the stunning Kamala restaurant and we’ll certainly be back.

Kicking off at 12PM (though, let’s be honest, we got there at 2) and running all the way until 6PM, this isn’t your typical buffet brunch. The Saturday specialty is Dim Sum, a traditional Chinese street food, made up of  wan ton “purses” filled with a variety of ingredients, from lamb to shrimp, and every colourful vegetable under the sun, steam-cooked and presented in baskets. This main attraction had us going back again and again, for more hot bite-sized explosions of flavour. Soon enough, the waiters were refilling our baskets without us even asking, each time presenting us with a new selection of dumplings that often looked too good to eat. Not that it stopped us from having chopstick duels over the last one, of course.

But that’s only the beginning. Pan-Asian cuisine was promised, and boy did Kamala deliver. To the right of the Dim Sum station, were masses of freshly fried spring rolls, every kind of satay you could imagine, and a cacophony of Asian-style salads, and two steaming hot soups of the day. To the left, there were rice and soba noodles prepared every which way, three types of rice, Pad Thai and a gorgeous Thai green curry. And just around the corner? A stack of sushi so high, we had to tip toe to reach the top tier. Finally, a huge selection of authentic Asian desserts and fruit salads. To top things off, each diner gets a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. For just 200LE per person, we ate to our hangovers’ content and wiled away the hours until we were ready to hit the town again.

Kamala's Endless Asian brunch is every Saturday between 12pm-6pm.
