Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium Will Be Expanded for 2027 AFC Asian Cup

The Ministry of Sports has tendered a contract for the expansion of the Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh. The project is part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s wider plan to build sports stadiums under its SAR 10.1 billion capital projects programme as it prepares to host the 2027 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup.

The expansion aims to increase the seating capacity from 22,188 seats to approximately 45,000. The scope of the contract includes the decommissioning, demolition, bulk excavation, relocation and setting up of related facilities for the stadium.

The ministry also tendered an early works contract in April for the expansion and development of the Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam. In addition to the Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium expansion, the upcoming projects slated for completion in preparation for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup include increasing the capacities of the King Fahd Stadium and Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, as well as the Bin Jalawi Stadium in Al Khair.  Furthermore, there are plans for the construction of a sustainable new stadium in Riyadh.

As part of the ministry's comprehensive projects program, the next major endeavor involves the construction of 30 new training grounds and facilities to support the 2027 competition.
