11th Edition of Arab Film Festival in Berlin to Open with Sudanese Hit 'You Will Die at Twenty'

Five months after its intended opening, the Arab Film Festival (ALFILM)'s 11th edition is set to launch in Berlin starting on September 1st, opening with Sudanese film 'You Will Die at Twenty'.

With the world slowly churning to a post-lockdown 'new normal', countries are becoming a little more comfortable with the idea of sitting next to a whole bunch of strangers to watch a movie. And with that in mind, five months after its intended opening, the Arab Film Festival (ALFILM)'s 11th edition is set to launch in Berlin starting on September 1st, opening with Sudanese film 'You Will Die at Twenty' (directed by Amjad Abu Alala), which will be screened at Freiluftkino Kreuzberg. It is part of an official selection presenting contemporary fiction and documentary films telling stunning tales of survival, and the importance of reclaiming one’s story.

Screenings will continue on September 2nd at Arsenal Cinema with the 'Resistance is Female' spotlight programme, which aims to share powerful female perspectives on war from Syria, Iraq and Algeria, among other nations. The programme includes academy award nominee 'For Sama', directed by Waad Al-Kateab and Edward Watts.

The ALFILM will be supplemented during the month of September with a whole host of virtual talks and online panels. You will be able to look through the festival's complete programme on August 10th at alfilm.berlin/en/
