Thousands gathered inside St. Samaan El Kharraz Church in Muqattam this weekend to celebrate Coptic Easter, and the photos are captivating.
While some were out indulging in feseekh and others chasing bunnies and hunting for eggs, a large portion of Egypt's Christian population congregated inside homes and church walls to celebrate Easter. The annual celebration marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the pivotal point of salvation upon which the faith is based. One of Egypt's most renowned churches, St. Samaan El Kharraz Church inside the Muqattam mountain, filled out with worshippers of all walks of life coming to celebrate Easter mass. Photos of people caught in moments of genuine connection with God through serene prayer and worship truly capture the essence of the celebration and what it entails for Christians as a whole and for every person individually.
