Zawya Cinema to Screen Restored Version of Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver'

Fun fact: this legendary film was indirectly responsible for the near-assassination of US president Ronald Reagan.

Cairo’s staple downtown arthouse cinema Zawya is hosting two screenings of Martin Scorsese's restored masterpiece, ‘Taxi Driver’, on February 10th and February 17th.

The highly-acclaimed film received various awards including the 1976 Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or and four nominations at the 49th Academy Awards, including for Best Picture, Best Actor for Robert De Niro, and Best Supporting Actress for Jodie Foster.

The plot follows a mentally unstable veteran who works as a taxi driver (duh) in New York City, where the grime of the city feeds his thirst for violence. Fun fact: it was also indirectly responsible for the near-assassination of US president Ronald Reagan.
