AUC Venture Lab, a university-based startup accelerator by the American University in Cairo, has been named the regional winner for the Best Accelerator/Incubator Programme in North Africa by the 2021 Global Startup Awards. AUC Venture lab was selected out of a pool of 60 accelerators and incubators, which themselves were picked out of an even larger pool of 7,600 nominations.
The Global Startup Awards is an international startup competition powered by xo.company, taking a comb through 124 countries across four continents to recognise entrepreneurial excellence and the programmes that empower them.
Launched in 2013, AUC Venture Lab has been involved with extensive entrepreneurial outreach across Egypt, the Middle East and Africa. As Egypt's first university-based accelerator, it has been able to support over 200 startups, including notable breakout successes like Swvl, GBArena and Bosta.
