Samsung will build a USD 30 million factory in Beni Suef, around 100 kilometres south of Cairo. The project will employ and train over 1,000 Egyptian engineers in the manufacture of educational tablets.
The deal is part of the new state initiative ‘Egypt Makes Electronics’ (EME), a core pillar of the government’s digital transformation goals. The hope for the plant is that it will help Egypt rely less heavily on importing electronic devices, and instead harness a new generation of tech talents locally.
The factory is scheduled to open in March 2022.
