Egypt Builds Facilities to Produce Over a Billion Vaccines Per Year

A new facility outside Cairo which will start operating in November to produce one billion vaccines by China's Sinovac and Egypt's state-run VACSErA per year.

Egypt's Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) has established a new facility outside Cairo which will start operating in November to produce one billion vaccines per year. This facility is just one of many that Egypt has been preparing to produce the VACSERA-Sinovac vaccine against COVID-19, with hopes of becoming a hub for vaccine exports to neighbouring nations in Africa.

Created with help from Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac, one million doses of the VACSERA-Sinovac vaccine has already been administered across Egypt.

Egypt is continuously creating more facilities with VACSERA with the aim of producing several million doses of VACSERA-Sinovac vaccine per day. VACSERA is also in talks with an unannounced European company to help ramp up production.

As part of the country's mission to vaccinate as many Egyptians as possible in preparation for the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Egypt is pairing these locally produced VACSERA-Sinovac jabs with shipments of 5.2 million doses of vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna in September.
