The Egyptian team will be hoping to clinch their first world title on home soil.
Egypt is set to host the World Men’s Handball Championship for the second time in its history after an agreement was reached between the International Handball Federation and the Egyptian Handball Federation over the 2021 edition of the tournament.
While the Egyptian men's national handball team has never won what many consider to be the biggest prize in the sport, they are seen as one of Africa's best and most successful teams. The nineties is remembered as the golden era of the sport for Egypt, whose national team went on to become the first non-European team to reach the championship's semi-final stage in 2001.
The 2021 edition will be unique in that it will be the first to feature 32 teams, instead of the usual 24.
