An officer was shot and another killed in Garden City after a work-related fight turned violent.
A work dispute turned into a fatal crime in Garden City yesterday, where a low-ranking police officer was shot dead by a police conscript, Al Ahram reports. According to the state-run newspaper, another policeman was also injured.
The argument reportedly broke out when one of the officers insulted the conscript, who was securing foreign embassies in the upscale area, while threatening to report him for administrative violations.
Egypt’s Ministry of Interior said in a Facebook statement that the conscript was suffering from a "bad psychological state" resulting from a work feud with the officers. The newspaper added that the Central Security Forces use thousands of army conscripts - who have low levels of educational attainment - for police work in a three-year mandatory service.
