Who carries around a cashload in a country that is scraping for spare change? The nerve...
We were informed this morning through Al Bawaba News, which reported from Laha Magazine, that Lebanese singer Wael Jassar was arrested in Cairo International Airport – after throwing a concert in Alexandria – for trying to get out of Egypt with too much cash.
The amount he was carrying was a total sum of USD 54,000.
Apparently, Jassar said he never heard of this law regarding the limits one has on carrying foreign currencies, and he is unfamiliar with it. His unfamiliarity got him arrested, and it caused him to lose out on USD 44,000 to Egyptian bureaucracy – the limit allowed for passengers to carry is USD 10,000.
