The Ministry of Social Solidarity has called upon early childhood nurseries for children under four to avoid placing any holy verses on their walls after a viral image spread on social media.
In response to a viral image that showed an Egyptian nursery with a Quranic verse on their gate - which many saw as being taken out of context and used inappropriately - the Ministry of Social Solidarity has called upon early childhood nurseries for children under four to avoid placing any holy verses on their walls.
The ministry based the decision on a fatwa from the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta, which stated that using holy verses in contexts not applicable to them is not permissible. The move was also made in an attempt to avoid any suggestion that a nursery may accept children of a particular religious group to the exclusion of others, or are allowed to propagate divisive rhetoric.
