Occupy Facebook: Egypt Edition

By now, you've all seen it - artsy types spreading their gospel all over Facebook for the love of art. But why isn't anyone putting the spotlight on local art? Here's some inspiration...

Once upon a time, Facebook did what it said on the tin, it was a social network platform to connect with friends. It's now become an ad network more than anything else, and even if you can scroll beyond the countless sponsored posts from products you couldn't give a shit about or want and don't need, you'll find the narcissist network, and smorgasbord of selfies and pointless political opinions. We came across this beautiful post today:

The idea is to occupy Facebook with art, breaking the monotony of photos of lunch, selfies, and sports. I will assign the name of an artist to whomever likes this post, and you have to publish a piece by that artist with this text. I was assigned [artist] by [Facebook friend].

This is the Occupy Facebook campaign, we're not sure who started it but it's a brilliant concept that's been flooding the addictive site with enlightening and stimulating visuals that'll hopefully turn Facebook into one glorious art exhibition. The cool part is you can suggest artists that you specifically think might appeal to people who like your picture or shine a light on an artist who they otherwise may have never have heard of.

We thought why not hijack Occupy Facebook, so to speak, and use it as a chance to promote Egyptian art and artists. Check out some inspiration from contemporary and modern local art below or post a piece of art from an Egyptian artist you love with the following link and let's see what happens! -
