The new Dr. Magdi Yacoub Square is named after him in celebration of his cardiological achievements.
A new square was installed in Aswan, where a statue of world-class heart surgeon Dr. Magdi Yacoub was unveiled. Dr. Yacoub and his daughter, Lisa Yacoub, attended the event, which saw the Dr. Magdi Yacoub Square named in his honour.
The Egyptian-British doctor is celebrated for his achievements in cardiology and his prize-winning career in Britain, the United States and Nigeria. He was knighted in 1992 and awarded the Order of Merit by the Queen of Britain in 2014.
He is currently the head of the Magdi Yacoub foundation, which began the Aswan Heart Centre Project to combat heart disease in Egypt.
