Telecom Egypt has announced its plans to build a giant ring around Africa that will allow cities across the continent to connect to Europe.
Telecom Egypt has announced their plans for the Hybrid African Ring Path (HARP), a sub-sea system surrounding the whole of Africa. Through a combination of underwater and terrestrial routes, the system will allow cities across Africa to connect to Europe through landing points from South Africa to Italy, from the continent's East Coast to France, and from the West Coast to Portugal.
"HARP will enable Telecom Egypt’s plans to establish open points of presence in various new locations in Africa and Europe to serve its enterprise and wholesale customers," Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Egypt Adel Hamed said. "It will also support the digital transformation efforts exerted throughout African nations, and expand the company’s international footprint."
The HARP is planned for launch in 2023.
