The Sultans of Swing are coming to a bay near you - Somabay, to be exact!
The Dire Straits experience is about to land on Egypt's shores! Now, some of you might know the iconic band by their hit songs, Sultans of Swing, or Money For Nothing, or maybe by Brothers in Arms. Well, it doesn't matter, because The Dire Straits Experience - original band member Chris White and six other world class musicians, who between them have played with some of the world's most notable rock artists the likes of Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Elton John, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Van Morrison, Tom Jones and Sheryl Crow - will perform all these songs and many more when they grace the shores of the Red Sea this coming January at the majestic Somabay. If you've never been to Somabay before, be warned: eyes are prone to sudden multiple orgasms, rendering your vision useless as it will be fixed beyond your control on the wonder that is the view at Somabay. Crystal clear waters, virgin beaches, and a mountainous backdrop that will make your inner nomad tingle.
Take all this and add to it the classical, majestic, almost godly sound that is the Dire Straits, and you've got one hell of a winning combo. Come January, your dreams will come true when the Sultans of Swing descend upon the Bay of Soma. Now for those of you who are not up to date about the Grammy Award winning band, the Dire Straits are one of the world's most famous rock bands, and one of the best selling artists worldwide. In 13 years they produced six albums, four of which went platinum and two went gold. Their most revered album, Brothers in Arms, went nine times platinum! That means they sold over 9 million albums! Those of us who are fans know that the band broke up after releasing On Every Street, which is the follow up album to Brothers in Arms.
It's been 20 years since the original band disbanded. Young fans everywhere were disheartened - devastated, even - that they wouldn't be able to experience the phenomenon that is the Dire Straits. Now, to our surprise, we've been given another chance with original band member Chris White joining forces with Terrence Reis and a band of some of the world's most highly acclaimed musicians, to once again play the iconic tunes that were created by the band two decades ago. This January, they're going to take us on a journey through time back into the heyday of Rock N Roll, a chance to re-live the old days, when money was for nothing and the chicks were for free, when they perform at Marina of Somabay. So, get your best brown baggies and your platform soles ready, the Sultans are coming!
