The Minimum Internet Speed in Egypt is to Reach 4 Mbps Within 6 Months, says Communication Minister

This could possibly be the end of Egypt's consistent ranking as one of the world's slowest internet services.

Earlier today, Egypt's Communications Minister Yasser El Kady revealed that major upgrading efforts are currently underway to enhance the internet infrastructure in the country, assuring that the minimum speed in any Egyptian home will reach 4 Mbps by the end of this year, Al Masry Al Youm reports.

El Kady, who's currently in Kafr El Sheikh to inaugurate a number of projects by the ministry, explained that only 47% of current DSL lines reach the speed of 4 Mbps or higher, which is what the ministry intends to change in order to enable society to delve into the digital age, concludes El-Kady. Egypt's main provider of internet  services is the government-owned TE Data, which is run by the ministry.

Internet in Egypt consistently ranks among the worst and slowest in the world, and it currently stands as the world's 4th slowest internet.
