Images went viral of an offensive tweet from the US Center for Strategic and International Studies to Amnesty International, forcing the center to send an apology to the human rights organisation later on.
A US-based thinktank was forced to issue a grovelling apology after telling the human rights group Amnesty International to “suck it” on Twitter.
The fracas started when Amnesty posted a tweet critical of America’s human rights record.
Moments later, somebody with access to the Twitter feed for the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Twitter account replied: “Your work has saved far fewer lives than American interventions. So. suck it.”
The image went viral on social media and CSIS was forced to apologise moments later.
CSIS is a 52-year-old Washington DC thinktank that often consults on foreign relations and international policy.
