Basma Wahba Talk Show Suspended After Maged El-Masry Makes Racist Remarks On-Air

Egypt's Media Syndicate took the show off air with immediate effect, for violating 'professional and ethical standards'.

Maged El Masry

In spot of casual racism news, actor Maged El-Masry walked TV host Basma Wahba through what was supposedly a funny story, that immediately backfired and led to the suspension of the show. He shared of an anecdote of a friend telling him that three fans were dying to meet up with him, to which he graciously agreed. He arrived in Roxy Square in Heliopolis later that night to meet up with them; but when they enter his vehicle and remove their veils, he is horrified to find out they're 'Africans'. To a clearly amused Basma Wahba, El-Masry carries on by saying he (quite) literally kicked the girls out of his car. His friend, presumably embarrassed for setting him up, left immediately. Isn't this just hilarious?

El-Masry's offensive remarks went viral on social media, exposing him to massive scrutiny along with the host, Wahba. Earlier today, after investigating a number of complaints, Egypt's Media Syndicate took the show off air with immediate effect, for violating 'professional and ethical standards'.

The news follow an incident earlier in the month that saw Egyptian comedian and actress, Shimaa Seif, casually sport blackface on Ramez Galal's prank show, in an attempt to 'look Sudanese', inciting massive backlash in Sudan and Egypt alike. Unlike Wahba's show, Galal's show continues to run uninterrupted.
