Start starving yourselves because Cairo Bites heading to Maryland Park this April, and this year the annual two-day food festival is bringing some delicious nostalgia with it.
Let's be honest here and not sugarcoat things - (mmmm, sugar) - almost all us Egyptians are in love and obsessed with food bi ghashama. Who's to blame us? It is the most wondrous of earthly delights; little in this world can top an absurdly cheesy pizza, or teta's molokheya, or an entire box of doughnuts eaten in one go. As a nation, we Egyptians have a special place in our hearts for all things edible (but especially for ma7shy, because ma7shy) and as such, often the highlight of our entire year is not Valentine's Day with all the sappy sentiments; it's Cairo Bites. Because food man, that's true love right there.
Every year, without fail, the mammoth food festival brings all the foodies to the yard - and that yard is loaded with every mouthwatering dish you've ever fantasised about or ever will fantasise about. Stall upon stall, laden with everything from cookies to hot dogs to smoothies are always present at the event and it is glorious. Each year thousands of Egyptians descend upon the festival, fat pants in hand, to stuff their faces. And this year, we presume will be no different, as the festival returns on the 15th and 16th of April. Can we get a hallelujah?
This year's event will be setting up shop at the Maryland Park in Heliopolis and you can expect two back-to-back days of food, competitions, games, live music, standup comedy, and more food. Plus, this year's theme is taking us back to the 80s and 90s for some feel-good taste-good nostalgia of delectable proportions. Retro vibes and endless eating options - really the best way imaginable to spend one's time on any given day. Bring on the binge session.
