The well-known brand joins the growing list of international fashion names finally targeting Muslim clientele.
Spanish fashion chain Mango is launching a Holiday Special Ramadan collection, joining a growing trend of fashion brands creating lines targeting Muslim clientele. According to WWD, it will go on sale on May 30, ahead of Ramadan that starts on June 6th.
So far, the collection includes casual clothes such as loose pants, kaftans, jackets, tunics, and shirts. Although the clothes seem very oriented at being light, loose, and comfortable enough for those fasting, the style is casual enough to be stylishly worn by any women. “The globalisation of collections is part of the business development the brand has been applying to different markets for over 10 years now,” said the Barcelona-based company. “Understanding the characteristics of markets such as those in Arab countries, Asia, cold or inverted season countries is part of the DNA of Mango. For this reason, in 2015 approximately 80 percent of brand turnover corresponded to markets outside Spain.”
Dolce & Gabbana, Marks & Spencer, Uniglo, and DKNY are among the brands that have been working on producing clothing specifically tailored to Muslim clientele, with the former offering abayas, full-body swimsuits, and hijabs. DKNY being, well, DKNY, they launched a Ramadan collection in 2014 that was styled by Middle Eastern fashion figures Yalda Golsharifi and Tamara al Gabbani. Now we add Mango to the growing list of brands joining the movement.
