It's been described as one of the most exciting ever discoveries in the area.
In this world exclusive, we get the first look at what is being touted as one of the most spectacular Ancient Egyptian findings in recent times, ahead of its official announcement last weekend.
Archaeologists have uncovered one of the most unique and intact tombs in Egypt, one whose inscriptions still carry their original colour. Believed to be the resting place for a high-ranking official from the Ptolemaic Period called Tutu, the tomb is also unique for containing tens of mummified animals, in addition to one human mummy, believed to be the owner of the tomb.
“It’s one of the most exciting discoveries ever in the area,” said Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mostafa Waziri, of a town that continues to reveal itself as one of the most archaeologically rich areas in Egypt, building on the 2018 of the Sohag Museum, which is home to an exclusive collection of antiquities.
