We get the first look into the infamous downtown club Zigzag ahead of their reopening on the 19th, which promises a trippy new look and a weekly entertainment schedule packed with both international and local stars.
After a four month break, downtown dance club Zigzag have announced they will re-open this September 19th, after undertaking a massive makeover. We spoke to club owners, Alex Chesnais and Marc Wahba, who gave us exclusive access to the club for a quick peek into what will surely become one of our favourite Cairo clubs (again). An aesthetic over-haul serves to channel the design energy of the place to satisfy your senses at every turn. Walls are being knocked down, and visual lighting effects are being placed to highlight the panel designs that are strewn across the place. The work is far from over, so we can only imagine the results...The entertainment program hasn't been spared, and is seeing a set of changes. The weekly schedule is getting a revamp with several different concepts set for each day of the week. Starting with Mondays, a bi-weekly concept called Techno Gone Disco which will be focusing on the brighter side of artists who are better known for their darker musical personas. Another series set to fill in the two remaining Monday's of every month is Warm-up Monday's which will rely on artists like Azaar, Marc Wahba, Aly B, Omar El Sabh, Klady, and others to ease you out of the weekend and back into the dreaded work week mode. Tuesdays are Hip-Hop, Wednesdays feature Live entertainment, while Thursday is dedicated to House and Friday to Techno. As for the bookings, nothing has been revealed just quite yet, but expect some amazing international names to be making appearances regularly for both the House and Techno nights, alongside the usual local suspects that make up the entertainment schedule. ZigZag has gone from strength to strength with their international bookings last season, be it Egbert or David Mayer, Third Son or Ivan Smagghe, Zigzag never fails to impress and with the look of things, we assume this season won't be any different. We're buzzing with anticipation ahead of their re-opening on the 19th, get your dancing shoes ready Cairo, it's going to be a long season.
